Man charged in shooting of Chipotle employee in Southfield over guac dispute

A Detroit man is facing charges after he allegedly shot and killed a Chipotle employee in Southfield following an argument over guacamole.

On Monday, Southfield police said 32-year-old Michael Brown was charged with one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, less than murder, and one count of discharging a weapon or firearm into a building, causing injury and was charged with two counts of assault, possession of a firearm to commit a felony.

Officials say an employee was shot in the leg last Friday and is expected to make a full recovery. The victim is a 21-year-old man from Detroit.

The shooting took place at the Evergreen location. The suspect was taken into custody near the nearby Arbor Lofts at the Civic Center and the weapon was recovered.

“It's guacamole, I personally love guacamole but I would never shoot someone over it, I don't know why anyone would do that,” said Leilah Kakaire of Southfield.

Kakaire arrived at Chipotle on Saturday to pick up food, but the restaurant was closed that day.

“I didn’t think it would close… but there was always the possibility,” Kakaire said.
