The Packers are preparing for their season opener in Brazil against the Eagles and are likely to knock out the Steelers

Just weeks after team owner and Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II said he did not expect the Steelers to play an international game during the 2024 season, that is becoming increasingly likely as the Green Bay Packers appear to be preparing for it seem to be playing against the Philadelphia Eagles in the season opener in Brazil.

According to a tweet from ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky, the Packers appear to be preparing for the season opener in Brazil.

Packers president Mark Murphy said Tuesday morning: “We are either the first or second most popular team in Brazil,” according to Demovsky’s tweet.

Following the announcement of opponents for the 2024 season and the fact that the Eagles would host the season opener in Brazil, the Steelers were one of nine teams potentially set to face the Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil at Corinthians Arena on Friday, September 6th, to open the 2024 season.

The Steelers are one of nine opponents that will play the Eagles on the road this season, as the Eagles will be the home team in Brazil.

But based on Murphy's comments Tuesday about being one of the most popular teams in Brazil and Rooney's comments a few weeks ago about an international game for the 2024 season, it appears the Steelers will not face the Eagles in their season opener in South America .

The Corinthians Arena is the home of the football club SC Corinthians. It was the official venue for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, but has not been used on the world stage since.

Although the Steelers and Rooney have expressed interest in playing an international game again, nothing appears to be in the cards yet. However, while the Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac said in one of his chats in March that a game in Mexico could happen in 2025, Rooney explained that the Steelers are pushing to get a game in Ireland in the next few seasons during that Team continues to expand its presence in Ireland.

Pittsburgh's last international match took place in 2013. This season, the Steelers traveled to London to play the Minnesota Vikings at Wembley Stadium in Week 4. In that game the Steelers lost 34-27.

Since then, Pittsburgh has secured international marketing rights in Ireland, Mexico and most recently Germany.
