Renée Zellweger's next Bridget Jones film is officially underway and some franchise veterans are also returning

Probably one of the best romantic comedies of all time, The Diary of Bridget Jones has become one of the most prolific franchises in the history of the genre. Portrayed by Renée Zellweger, fans have watched Bridget find and lose love and even become a mother, and now they will see her face life's difficulties once again. The even better news is that she's not the only franchise vet returning when Bridget Jones: Crazy about the boy it has been published.

Accordingly The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Grant will reprise the role of the swashbuckling Daniel Cleaver for the first time since 2004, after refusing to appear in the third film. Emma Thompson, who made her debut in the franchise in 2016 Bridget Jones' Baby will also return, presumably in the role of Doctor Rawlings. Unfortunately, it looks like Colin Firth, who played Jones' husband, is unlikely to return, as his character in the new film has passed away. But maybe he'll show up in a flashback. After all, it wouldn't be the first time that Firth rejected an application Bridget Jones role just to change his mind.
