Date, start times, live stream information and preview

It's almost time for the 2024 Masters Tournament. And that means it's also almost time for the Masters Par 3 Contest, an exhibition event held each year the day before the opening round of the Masters.

Before the Masters tournament begins on Thursday, the par-3 competition takes place on Wednesday at Augusta National Golf Club. The event is a nine-hole, par 27 single round that includes only holes ranging from 70 to 140 yards.

No golfer has won the Par 3 Contest and the Masters Tournament in the same year. The former is more about having fun than coming first, as family members often act as caddies for the exhibition event.

Here's everything else you need to know for the 2024 Masters Par 3 Competition.

While the Masters Par 3 Contest doesn't involve the highest stakes, there have been some exciting moments during the event in recent years.

In 2016, Jimmy Walker set the par-3 contest record with a score of 19. His impressive performance included a hole-in-one where he beat the previous mark by one shot.

In 2022, Mackenzie Hughes and Mike Weir shared the title as each achieved a score of 23. Due to inclement weather, the two did not face each other in a playoff hole. But there have also been playoffs in the par-3 contest in the past, as Matt Wallace won the event in 2019.

Tom Hoge was the winner of the par-3 competition last year, finishing with a score of 21. However, Hoge missed the cut at the Masters tournament.

The closest golfers came to winning both the Par-3 Contest and the Masters in the same year came in 1990 and 1993. Raymond Floyd (1990) and Chip Beck (1993) each won the par-3 contest and then finished second in the Masters. Floyd lost in a playoff.

There are 12 golfers who have won both a par-3 competition and a Masters title during their careers. The club's most recent addition was Weir, the 2022 Par-3 Contest co-champion who previously won a Masters championship in 2003.

But if a golfer were to ultimately win both in the same year, it would end the “curse” that has weighed on winners of the par-3 competition since the event began in 1960.

Regardless of who wins on Wednesday, it will be entertaining to watch the golfers interact and have fun with their family members before the Masters opens on Thursday. There should also be good golf played.
