Hailee Steinfeld joins Ryan Coogler's supernatural thriller cast

Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen Stacy in the acclaimed film Spider-Verse Films, will star opposite Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler's untitled supernatural thriller from Warner Bros. Pictures.

The buzzy project, which was the subject of a high-profile bidding war in January, goes on camera in New Orleans later this month and is being bid for with great enthusiasm. Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo and Jack O'Connell, among others, make up the heady list of calls.

Little is known about the project – and what Is is known, still needs to be confirmed by the studio or Coogler. According to insiders, the film is set in the Jim Crow-era South and may involve both vampires and southern supernatural traditions. Jordan may even play a dual role – as twin brothers.

However, some unclear casting details have been leaked. Mosaku potentially plays Jordan's romantic interest (but which twin?); O'Connell could be a racist antagonist; and Steinfeld's part is completely sealed in a coffin.

Coogler wrote the script and is also producing through his production company Proximity Media. Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian also produce.

The studio has set a release date of March 7, 2025.

The project, first unveiled in January, was the subject of a heated bidding war over the winter, with Warners coming out on top thanks to a unique deal that saw some of the film's rights revert to the filmmaker over the course of several decades.

Steinfeld was last seen reprising her fan favorite Hawkeye role of archer Kate Bishop last year The wonders. She also recently starred and executive produced “The Movie.” Dickinson, Apple TV+'s historical comedy-drama about author Emily Dickinson, which ran for three seasons. She is expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy in Sony Pictures Animation's finale Spider-Verse Guess, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versecurrently in production.

Steinfeld is represented by CAA and Howard Fishman.
