Martinez intends to enter the transfer portal

Even though the Oregon State football program has undergone almost wholesale changes this offseason, running back Damien Martinez has repeatedly stated that he is committed to staying with the team.

That changed on Tuesday when, according to multiple reports, Martinez told the coaching staff that he planned to enter the transfer portal. Martinez, a native of Lewisville, Texas, did not participate in practice Tuesday.

Martinez, who will be a junior next season, was a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 Conference selection and was the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman. As a sophomore, he ran for 1,185 yards and nine touchdowns and played in every game except the Sun Bowl.

With his departure, Oregon State added Jam Griffin, Isaiah Newell and Anthony Hankerson as experienced returnees at the position. Griffin began his career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Oregon State for the 2022 season. Griffin transferred to Ole Miss last season but is back with the Beavers this spring.
