Warren's track and field teams had big days Tuesday, winning visiting Union City at War Memorial Field.

The biggest day came from senior Laney Gatto, who had her sights set on the school record in the pole vault. She broke Emily Thomas' 19-year-old record of 9 feet 6 not once, but four times on Tuesday. Gatto scored 9-7, 10-1, 10-7 and 11-1 for first place in the Lady Dragons' 122-27 win to improve to 2-0.

“I started working with Coach (Joe) Sanford the summer before my junior year.” Gatto said. “I didn’t know what to expect at the time as it was so new to me. I was pleased with my progress my junior year and quickly breaking the school record became one of my goals.

“It was really exciting to break the record at a home game” She said. “I am very grateful to Coach Sanford for his wisdom, encouragement and most of all for believing in me. Without him I wouldn't be where I am. … I’m glad my hard work is paying off and I’m looking forward to achieving more this season.”

Warren's great talent dominated the meet, including wins in the 400 meters from Lilly Newton (1:05.05 to 1:05.18 from UC's Ava Reagle, who won the 100 and 200 meters). Newton also won the high jump at 4-10.

With a dominant performance, Morgan Alexander won the 800 (2:43.26), 1,600 (5:46) and 3,200 (12:49.71). Teammate Brynn Norris took second in the 800 and 1600.

Lindsay Madigan won the javelin throw over 95 feet, 3 inches and the triple jump over 32 feet. In the 100 m race she finished second behind Reagle with 13.32 seconds.

Teammate Adison Cullers won the 100 hurdles in 18.57 seconds and had a half-second lead in the 300 hurdles.

Aurora Feaster and Zoe Rodgers were 1-2 in the discus with 79-06 and 78-07, respectively.

Kylie Fehlman won the throw with 32 feet, 6 inches ahead of teammates Feaster, Katie Seamens and Rodgers.

Gracie Page won the long jump 14-03.

“We’ve seen a lot of kids improve on their performance from a few weeks ago.” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “We hope to see more of this as we move into the second half of the season with more meets and invitations. Special recognition goes to Laney Gatto who broke the school record in the pole vault…she worked hard to get to where she is now with Coach Sanford. Congratulations to Laney – well done.”

In Warren's 83-66 boys' victory, Johnny Corbett won the 100 in 12.14 seconds and finished 1-2-3 ahead of Tommaso Clemente (12.19) and Adam Yeager (12.36). Corbett also won the 200m in 25.06 seconds, beating Yeager and Clemente.

Sam Lindell won both the 800-meter race (2:15.73) and the 1,600-meter race (4:50.55), with Quinn Norris finishing a close second in both events. Matt Sowa won the 3,200m in 12:28.53.

Scott Nichols bested teammate Patrick Ross in the low hurdles 51.45-51.79, and Nichols won the 110 high hurdles in 19.22 seconds.

Andrew Haight easily won the discus throw with a throw of 119 feet.
