Sports in brief: Hancock baseball team falls in Long Beach | Local sports

The Vikings (23-8) scored five runs in the first two innings and never looked back, earning a 10-3 non-conference win over the Bulldogs in Long Beach on Monday.

Hancock (19-13) saw its two-game winning streak come to an end. The Bulldogs won the last two of their three-game Western State Conference North Division series against Ventura to move to 13-5 in the WSC North.

Five Vikings had at least one RBI and Luke Davis and AJ Quezada each had two. Isaiah Hernandez had two RBIs for Hancock.

At press time, Hancock was scheduled to play a non-conference game at Mt. San Jacinto on Tuesday and then host the Eagles on Saturday at 1 p.m

Von Gordon shot a one-over-par 36 on the back nine of the Olde Course on Monday at Monarch Dunes in Nipomo to lead the Pirates to victory in the third Sunset League tournament of the season.

Santa Ynez posted a team score of 197, well ahead of second-place Morro Bay (220). Paso Robles was third in the field of five with 221. Cabrillo (230) and Nipomo (248) followed. Talon Hawk of Morro Bay was the medalist with an even-par 35.

Brayden Mlodzik (37), Seb Perez (40), Marcelo Andrade (41) and Cody Armenta (43) followed Gordon in the Santa Ynez classification.

Santa Ynez is the reigning CIF Central Section Division 2 champion.
