Learn more about Owen:

How did you get into playing football?

Owen: I started playing football when I was about four or five years old. My older brother, who is two and a half years older than me, played, so I started playing on his team. When I was growing up, I spent most of my time playing with older children, like two or three years old and me, which helped me a lot because my brother was always better than me. I always tried to be as good as him.

Would you say you were competitive with each other?

Owen: Sure, but I would honestly say we work more together. We weren't necessarily the fighting brothers. We kind of loved each other a lot and worked together a lot on the field. It was always the case that one of us as quarterback, when we played receiver, could read the other's mind because we spent so much time together.

When did you realize you wanted to play soccer at the next level?

Owen: I think it's something I've wanted to do since I was ten years old. That's when I started playing tackle football at the age of 10 and I fell in love with it. I always knew I wanted to play in college and then eventually play professionally.

You're wearing an Arizona Cardinals jersey. Would this be your team of choice if you played professionally?

Owen: Actually they're not. The (Philadelphia) Eagles are my favorite team. My parents are from the Philadelphia area.

Do you have a favorite Eagles player right now?

Owen: It has to be DeVonta Smith because he's a slot receiver and a smaller guy, but he goes out there and makes plays. A lot of people doubted him because of his size and he goes out and does good things.

Have you ever tried to recreate some of his moves on the field?

Owen: Yes, definitely. He's really good at getting in and out of his routes. This is something I look at often. He's super, super special and talented, so I try to emulate that every day.

What do you like to do outside of football?

Owen: I like playing golf. I also have a community through my faith, so I go to church. We run the “Athletes in Action” ministry here on campus. Really just going out and playing golf and going to the golf course with a few friends every day and then going to our AIA meetings on Monday nights and doing Bible studies.

Have you been able to play the OU golf course yet?

Owen: I've probably played it about 20 times, yeah it's a lot of fun, we try to get out as much as possible.

The quarterbacks like to scramble together. Have you played golf with them yet?

Owen: I got to join in with a few quarterbacks. When I go I usually go, I usually go with Parker. I play with him almost every day, but I play with a lot of guys on the team. There are some talents, but also some guys who are really bad.

Would you ever try to take your golf career to the next level?

Owen: I wish I liked doing that. This is like a dream job. I'm not nearly as good.

What are you currently studying?

Owen: I'm studying in the MSM program, Master of Science and Management, but I'm trying to get the MBA. If I get into the MBA, it will start in August, but if I don't get in, I'll stick with the MSM program and I'll finish that in December.

What is your future goal with this?

Owen: My bachelor's degree was in finance. I really like the stock market and things like that, which is why I ultimately want to become a financial advisor. My long-term goal would be to either be a hedge fund manager or open my own financial advisory firm.

How did you find out about all this?

Owen: I always loved math, and then that kind of changed in high school. My father is interested in the stock market and taught me how to invest. At the beginning of my studies, I learned a lot from friends and professors.

Besides faith, golf and football, what should Bobcat fans know about you?

Owen: I love surfing. Even though I'm from Arizona, growing up we took surfing trips to California a few times a year. I learned to surf as a kid and went on surf trips to some really cool countries. I surfed in Tahiti, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico and then California.

Is surfing just something you learned?

Owen: It's a family thing. Me and my brother, we fell in love with it. As a kid, we would take the boat to Lake Powell and wakeboard surfing. Wake surfing is a bit like real surfing, but we also grew up on the East Coast because that's where my family lives. We grew up skateboarding, surfing and all that stuff. But as we got older, we really fell in love with it. We just took summer trips and winter trips to places where we can go surfing, so we got to go to some really, really cool places.
