FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Basketball made things official Wednesday morning with the hiring of John Calipari as the program's next head coach.

The Razorbacks will introduce Calipari to their adoring fan base tonight at 6 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena. Doors open at 5 p.m

Calipari signed a five-year contract to lead the Razorbacks with a salary starting at $7 million per season. The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus and possible salary increases based on performance in the NCAA Tournament.

“John Calipari is one of the best coaches in college basketball by any measure,” Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek said. “As a national championship coach, four-time National Coach of the Year and one of the top recruiters in the country, Coach Cal has consistently demonstrated his ability to attract outstanding talent, build championship teams within the Southeastern Conference and position his programs among the best in the nation .”

The entire state of Arkansas is in turmoil, and there is new momentum for a basketball program after a sub-.500 season that ended with the departure of Eric Musselman.

According to multiple reports, Calipari landed with Yurachek at Drake Field Airport in Fayetteville around 2:30 p.m. Arkansas fans were there waiting for Calipari's arrival, eagerly looking forward to this new era of Arkansas basketball.
