Voter ID fraud exposed ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections: Stay alert and secure your voting rights

As the 2024 Lok Sabha election approaches, a recent Voter ID fraud has surfaced online. Recently, a 30-year-old man, Mohsin Mohammad Rafi Shaikh, was arrested for making fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and voter ID cards in Malwani, Rajasthan. On further investigation, Shaikh agreed to the deal for Rs 2,000. In the later investigation, Shaikh confessed to using an online portal for forged documents and demonstrated this to the police, TOI reported. They confiscated a computer, a printer and papers. Shaikh was arrested for fraud and forgery.

How to apply for an online voter ID card

Here is a step-by-step guide to registering on the National Voters' Services Portal (NVSP):

  • Click “Login” in the top right corner.
  • Enter your mobile number, email address and captcha and then click “Next”.
  • Enter your personal details, create a password and then click “Request OTP”.
  • Enter the OTP you received on your mobile phone and email address and then click on “Confirm”.
  • Log in with your mobile number, password and captcha and then click on “Request OTP”.
  • Enter the OTP and click “Confirm and Login”.
  • Under “New General Voter Registration,” click “Complete Form 6.”
  • Enter all details on Form 6 including personal, contact and Aadhaar details. Upload the required documents and click Preview and Submit.
  • Review the information and click Submit if everything is correct.
