How to Watch Pittsburgh Penguins vs Boston Bruins: Time, FREE Live Stream

The Pittsburgh Penguins could take a big step toward a playoff spot when they welcome the Boston Bruins to PPG Paints Arena on Saturday.

It's safe to say that no one saw this resurgence coming a month ago. The Penguins were in 13th place in the East and simply looked like a team that was already thinking about the offseason.

Then they started winning – 7-0-3 in their last 10 games – and passed several teams for a playoff spot while continuing their winning streak.

As Saturday dawns, the Penguins (37-30-12, fourth in the Metropolitan Division) are in the second wild-card spot with 86 points and 79 games played. They are one point better than Washington, Detroit and Philly. The Capitals and Red Wings have both played 79 games and the Flyers have played 80 games. All four teams are in action today.

The Penguins are coming off a big win on Thursday, beating the Red Wings 6-5 in overtime. Sidney Crosby set up the winning goal 1:40 into overtime, setting up Erik Karlsson for the game-winning goal. Crosby became the 14th NHL player to record 1,000 career assists and the league's 10th all-time leading scorer.

“He does his best when the stakes are high, like all the all-time greats who have played the game,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said after the game. “He’s one of those guys.”

Crosby finished his career with one goal and two assists, increasing his career total to 1,591, one more than Hall of Famer Phil Esposito. Joe Sakic follows in ninth place with 1,641, Penguins icon Mario Lemieux in eighth with 1,723 and Crosby's childhood idol Steve Yzerman in seventh with 1,755.

Kris Letang and Jeff Carter each scored their 10th goal for Pittsburgh in Thursday's win. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 25 shots as the Penguins survived another late collapse that saw them squander a two-goal lead in the third period.

It's been a problem all season. But this time, Pittsburgh rebounded and took control of its playoff destiny.

“We’re just trying to find ways to win,” Nedeljkovic said. “They won’t always be pretty. You wish they were a little prettier, but like I said, we get two points tonight.”

Boston (46-18-15, first in the Atlantic Division) is just trying to stay healthy ahead of what will hopefully be a long playoff run that ends with a Stanley Cup. Boston is on the road 8/22/9.

The Bruins are the East's top seed with 107 points, one ahead of the Florida Panthers. They played one game less than the Panthers.

David Pastrnak has 47 goals and 60 assists for the Bruins, while Danton Heinen has scored three goals and contributed five assists in the last 10 games.

Saturday's duel is the third meeting between these teams this season. The Bruins won 5-1 in their last meeting.
