Suns and Grayson Allen reportedly agreed to a four-year, $70 million contract extension five days before the playoffs

The Phoenix Suns and Grayson Allen are staying together. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojanrowski, who spoke with Allen's agent, Allen and the Suns have agreed to a four-year, $70 million contract extension.

The 28-year-old Allen has made leaps and bounds in his six-year career, but his breakthrough came this season in Phoenix. He played in 75 of 82 games, including 74 as a starter, both the best results of his career. He played an average of 33.5 minutes per game, the most of his career, and made the most of that playing time, averaging 13.4 points, 3.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds, all career highs. He shot a career-high 49.9% from the field, and his 3-point percentage of 46.1% was not only a career-high (by far), but also the best in the entire league.

This is the first time in his professional career that Allen will be able to decide where he wants to play. He was drafted 21st overall by the Utah Jazz in 2018 and then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2019. He spent two seasons there before the Grizzlies traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021. The Bucks then traded him to the Suns before the start of the 2023 season, and he has been more comfortable on the floor since then.

The Suns finished sixth in the West with a record of 49-33, the same record as the New Orleans Pelicans. But they held the tiebreaker against the Pels and narrowly avoided a play-in tournament appearance this week.

The Suns begin their 2024 playoffs on Saturday against the third-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves.
