A terrible week for Liverpool

In the latter part of the season, one bad week can undo months of hard work – and Liverpool have just had a terrible week.

I actually think their defensive performances have been a real strength for them for much of this season, even with Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson missing for long periods of time due to injury.

So the last few days have been a big surprise in terms of how easily and how often they have been opened, first by Atalanta in the Europa League and then by Crystal Palace.

They also failed in attack on Sunday. Liverpool have bounced back from positional losses to take 27 points this season, but after missing their third player on Sunday I started to think it was going to be one of those go-nowhere days for them.

But while it's true that Liverpool missed some big chances, the same goes for the Eagles. Jurgen Klopp's side were very open and I don't think they can complain about the result, even if it is pretty devastating for their title hopes.

This was Manchester City's weekend, but it's still extremely tight at the top of the table and I still think there will be more twists and turns in the title race.

To stay there, Liverpool and Arsenal need to get back on their feet quickly.

It seems a tall order for Klopp's side to salvage the Europa League quarter-finals in Italy on Thursday, but they cannot afford to drop any more Premier League points against Fulham on Sunday.
