New PS5 Pro leak suggests significant graphics boost from Sony

Although we're still waiting for Sony's official announcement, the PS5 Pro seems to be all systems go behind the scenes. After several leaks in recent months, a new report from The Verge states that Sony is really starting to push its powerful console, as the company is currently asking development teams to ensure their games are compatible with the new hardware – presumably in Future of its launch later this year.

According to this latest leak – which largely overlaps with previous reports – Sony will focus on ray tracing and potentially significant graphical improvements with the PS5 Pro. The biggest upgrade is once again touted as a more powerful GPU (graphics processing unit), which will make the system “significantly more powerful” when it comes to implementing often demanding visual enhancements such as ray tracing. Documents obtained by The Verge say the GPU is “about 45 percent faster than the standard PS5.”

The Pro is also described by Sony as a “high-end version of the PS5” and is expected not to completely replace the standard console, but rather act as a premium option for the hardcore audience.

Meanwhile, the system's CPU (central processing unit) has already been rumored to be identical to that of the standard PS5. HoweverA “high CPU frequency mode,” which can be turned on and off by the user, allows the CPU to be clocked at a higher frequency. In other words, you can tell the Pro to provide more performance to the CPU at the expense of “approximately 1 percent less performance” on the GPU side.

And to top it off, the PS5 Pro will apparently give developers more system memory to play around with; That's a 28% increase – perhaps even more since the Pro's memory usage is more efficient – from 448GB per second on the PS5 to 576GB per second on the PS5 Pro. Sony believes these improvements are related to its PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology, which can reportedly provide huge increases in resolution through upscaling.
