Here are the top 7 downloaded PlayStation games for March 2024

Sony on Monday released its regular look back at the most downloaded video games on PlayStation in March, and it's a good snapshot of what shaped the conversation about video games as a whole, not just for that console's audience, over the past month. There are breakout hits alongside long-tail mainstays, with sports titles, as always, lurking on the fringes.

Whether you were at the forefront of one of these new releases or were just immersed in something else, here are the seven games most downloaded by the PlayStation Network's more than 100 million users. The full list, broken down by platform and region, can be found here.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 is the first breakout hit of 2024, arriving on PlayStation and PC in early February and immediately facing a server load of hundreds of thousands of players in the first two weeks of release.

Helldivers 2 is a purely cooperative multiplayer game that differs significantly from its predecessor, which was a top-down shooter that still attracted a large audience when it was released in 2015. The sequel takes the first game's tactically challenging setup and applies it in a more engaging and immersive third-person perspective. More than just the most downloaded PlayStation Network game, it's also the biggest Steam launch ever for a Sony-published title.

MLB The Show 24

MLB The Show 24 from SIE San Diego Studio is a full-service baseball simulation that has been a hit among sports fans every year since its launch more than 15 years ago. That doesn't mean manufacturers can rest on their laurels.

This year, MLB The Show is introducing 24 women as playable stars across all modes, making a big move to expand its audience to those fans who also dreamed of playing in the big leagues, even though they knew they would never had a chance. In Storylines mode, introduced in 2023, women play a prominent role. It's a series of interactive vignettes that tell lesser-known stories of professional players from the era of segregation in baseball. They're also part of Road to the Show, the game's true gem. It's a rich, vicarious single-player fantasy where users create their superstar and take them to the Major Leagues.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon's Dogma 2 is, as the title suggests, a sequel to something that was released 12 years ago but has never been forgotten by its cult audience. This open-world fantasy adventure isn't exactly Soulslike. Still, it's no wonder that the fanbase that has rallied around this subgenre over the last decade, particularly games like 2022's Elden Ring, would have a natural and passionate interest in this open-world epic.

WWE 2K24

WWE 2K24 faces a difficult task every year, which is essentially: “How do you simulate something that's, er, fake?” Somehow, three years ago, 2K Sports managed to portray professional wrestling and all of its behind-the-scenes intrigue as a mobile Presenting pieces on a delightful chess board full of chaos as if it were, um, a “real” sport.

One of the big showpieces this year is a 40-year retrospective of Wrestlemania. MyRise, the career mode for created players, once again features two unique storylines regardless of whether players are playing as a female or male Superstar. And those who like the meta of pro wrestling – the angles, the combinations and the like that make it such an athletic soap opera – will enjoy a nifty MyGM mode that doesn't make any major changes but knows how to dust off , finding a lot to love, building on the successes of the last two games without achieving a single teacup result.

Madden NFL 24

Madden NFL 24 didn't say goodbye when the final confetti of Super Bowl LVIII fell on the Kansas City Chiefs in early February. Thanks to the live service offerings of its Ultimate Team mode, Madden outperformed its basketball brethren in the first month of the sport's offseason, at least on PlayStation. American football is a year-round sport whether you like it or not, and its video game always has something to offer in the Madden Ultimate Team suite of live services.

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection

Few early console series are as popular as Battlefront, and when you add in the natural appeal of Star Wars, it's easy to see why this two-game bundle (comprising 2004's Battlefront and 2005's Battlefront II) is so popular with nostalgic fans would be a hit. Both games were brought to modern hardware in 2019 and 2020. But this collection, even if it's not actually a remake or remaster, is still more than just a port and promises the multiplayer action that made the first two such a long-lasting hit on PlayStation 2.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Here's a surprise. Rainbow Six Siege wasn't in the top 20 of this list last month, but here it shows up ahead of EA Sports FC 24, NBA 2K24 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This is due in part to the March launch of Operation Deadly Omen, the first season of this live service game's ninth year. And no, Rainbow Six Siege does Despite it not a free game. Whether Fortnite is launching its latest celebrity crossover or Destiny 2 is waiting for its next big expansion, Siege has you covered.
