The latest Sony leaks reveal incredible PS5 Pro GPU improvements

Not only is the PS5 Pro real, but recent leaks have also revealed an upcoming console with a huge jump in GPU performance over the current PlayStation console.

Based on reports from The Verge, Sony's latest console, codenamed “Trinity,” appears to be a new PS5 Pro version coming very soon. More importantly, the news outlet has published a report on the new console's features that is so significant that we assume they have a copy of the developer documents used to prepare for the upcoming console.

While it's not surprising that a PS5 Pro would be faster than the base model, the new version will reportedly include a “Trinity Mode” that targets a CPU frequency of 3.85GHz. That's almost 10% more than the CPU speed of the original model. Based on the details, this seems to mean developers will be able to switch between two different base and “Trinity” mode frequencies to set performance during gameplay. Although the details on this mode are not complete, it does not appear that it is a simple overclock or boost mode. We don't know if this choice is temporary or affects the entire gaming session. However, we know that the PS5 won't use more power when the CPU boots up, so there are trade-offs if the significantly more powerful GPU takes a little damage.

The biggest improvements seem to be in the graphics unit. Thanks to the PS5's GGPU speed, it's about 45% faster at rendering than the original. This is supported by an additional 1.2GB of system memory for higher bandwidth gaming. The result is more memory support, increasing speeds by 28 percent to 576 GB/s.

The new model is expected to feature improved support for Sony's new ray tracing architecture, higher frame rates, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support, and 8K improvements. While we don't have a teardown or list of internal components, details released via social media and other news sites seem to suggest that the PS5 isn't dead, but Sony is certainly looking for improvements. It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft and its Xbox brand follow suit, or whether the continued move to the cloud everywhere means we'll see a distinction between team blue and green hardware in the long term.
