Very little new information has been released about an incident that occurred Monday afternoon at the Dollar General Store on Highway 12 in Montrose.

A man was taken into custodytoday following what the Wright County Sheriff's Office described as a “critical incident” that began around 1 p.m. when Wright County Sheriff's Office deputies went to the Dollar General Store and attempted to arrest the adult male on outstanding warrants.

In a news release, the sheriff's office said officers attempted to take the man into custody after he left the store using “non-lethal means.” According to authorities, the man refused to obey officers' commands and brandished a firearm. The news release states that the man continued to resist arrest and a Wright County officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. The man was taken into custody and officers provided immediate assistance. The man was then transported from the scene of the accident in an ambulance.

There was no indication in the sheriff's department report as to how long the incident lasted, nor is it known at this time whether the deputy fired more than one shot. There was no official report of any shots fired by the suspect. No information about the identity of the adult male in custody has been released and his condition has not been disclosed.

The incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
