It's starting to look a lot like Christmas at Windsor Castle.

The house where Queen Elizabeth lived for most of the last two years is decorated for the holidays. The Royal Collection Trust has shared new photos and videos of elaborately decorated Christmas trees with red and gold ornaments at St. George's Hall, where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had their royal wedding reception and memorably introduced their son Archie, now 2, to the world.

The 20ft tall tree comes from Windsor Great Park – and Christmas trees for Windsor Castle are believed to have come from the park since the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901).

The 95-year-old monarch is not the only one who can be happy about the festive decorations. Visitors can experience the castle first-hand in full Christmas spirit until January 3rd. (Tourists can tour the State Apartments, which are separate from Queen Elizabeth's private apartments – although there is a chance to see her walking her beloved dogs!)

While it's tradition for Windsor Castle to dress up for the holidays, this year's display also includes a special nod to Queen Elizabeth's Christmas past.

From November 25 to January 31, 2022, visitors to Windsor Castle will have the opportunity to see costumes worn by the future Queen and her sister Princess Margaret in World War II-era Christmas plays. For the first time, the costumes will be on display in the Waterloo Chamber, where the pantomimes were originally performed 80 years ago.

The then Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret helped stage and perform a series of pantomimes from 1941 to 1944 to raise money for the Royal Household Wool Fund, which supplied knitting wool to make bed blankets for soldiers.

Pieces include outfits of one Aladdin Pantomime in which the future queen played the title role, wearing a gold brocade and turquoise jacket with turquoise dungarees and matching hat. Meanwhile, Princess Margaret wore a red silk dress and matching jacket to play Princess Roxana.

Other costumes include a long-sleeved pink satin and lace dress that Elizabeth wore for the role of Lady Christina Sherwood in a 1944 production of Old mother's red riding boots. She later changed into a chintz shirt, trousers and a sun hat for a seaside scene in which Princess Margaret wore a blue taffeta dress with cream lace trousers to play the Honorable Lucinda Fairfax. Worn three costumes Old mother's red riding boots will be seen for the first time.

Pantomimes are a slapstick-style show that is a family tradition in the UK at Christmas. The whimsical musicals, typically based on fairy tales, can be peppered with some allusive rhymes and songs and require frequent vocal interventions from the audience. They often have older men playing female roles, such as the Ugly Sisters in Cinderellaor young women playing male leads like Peter Pan.

Queen Elizabeth rested at Windsor Castle following her hospital stay on October 20. Since then, she has canceled several appointments, including a last-minute decision not to attend the Memorial Day event earlier this month due to a back sprain.

In addition to using a walking stick to get around at events last month, the Queen was also reportedly advised to avoid horse riding and martinis.
