I saw Night Swim On Peacock and it is the worst movie of 2024

The year is still young and while there are many upcoming films on the way in 2024, I think I have my picks for the best and worst film. I gave up on it Night swimming When it came to theaters based on the reviews, but since I already had a Peacock Premium subscription and it was playing there, I decided to give it a try. I can't express enough how happy I am about this, because this film excels at being bizarre rather than scary.

In 2019 I wrote about how Ma was my favorite horror movie because it's unintentionally hilarious, but Night swimming could dethrone it. There are some choices in this film that justify the brutal reviews from critics, including those from CinemaBlend Night swimming review, but I feel the same things make this film a must-see for anyone who wants to laugh and love a film that wasn't intended to be a comedy.

The pool-centric dialogue weighs down the film in the best way

The biggest challenge of Night swimming It's not so much about explaining that a swimming pool is haunted, but rather about finding a way to incorporate so much about a swimming pool into everyday conversations. Even in a film where bizarre events occur around this pool, they manage to talk about it a lot.

It seems like there's some self-awareness about this in the film, because there had to be a reason for the family to keep the pool despite some bizarre events. Ultimately, the reason is that the pool somehow heals Ray, the father, who was diagnosed with an illness that derailed his professional baseball career back home. Things are going so well that he hits a home run at his son's Little League practice that blows out the lights on the field. I highlight this because the scene is so exaggerated, but in reality he is a professional athlete who smashes with all his might a slow ball thrown his way.

The point I want to make is that the pool makes Ray better because it leads to my favorite line in the movie. Ray and his wife Eve are in the hospital and learn of the miraculous improvement in his illness and the return of his strength. As Eve talks to the doctor about the new diet and water therapy, Wyatt Russell smiles tearfully and says, “We have a pool.” It takes an emotional scene and brings it back to the swimming pool in a way that's so hilarious it's hard to believe just have to laugh.

Insignificant supporting characters deliver breathtaking performances

Even the best horror films have the flaw of having memorable supporting characters that ultimately have little impact on the overall film. In Night swimmingOne of the two people that stands out to me the most is the real estate agent, who is invited to his pool party for no apparent reason other than to advance the property.

Then there's the pool inspector, who steals his scene so much it's wild. There's this eccentric pool inspector who reveals all sorts of knowledge and steals the show. It was only later that I realized it was the actor Ben Sinclair High maintenance effort can be streamed with a Max subscription. He takes on his scene as if he were the main character, so much so that I thought he would step in at the end and play a leading role.

Unfortunately, the pool inspector is never seen again outside of this scene. I was really puzzled as to why it was featured so prominently, but I guess someone had to expound on the intricacies of the mysterious water in the area. Night swimming is a confusing film for many reasons, but I couldn't help but love how silly the prominent supporting characters were.

The film's plot falls apart towards the end, but that doesn't matter

I think what's most bizarre about it Night swimming is that the final third of the film essentially exposes the fact that the pool is actually evil. The evil, originally trapped in a pool, manages to travel through the city pipes to pursue the original homeowner seen at the beginning of the film, and later Ray, who is taking a shower.

Making a horror film about a pool is a crazy premise, but then throwing that premise out the window and just letting the evil water flow wherever it pleases in the latter part of the film is complete madness. I'd bet it might make some feel like they've wasted their time, and I can't blame anyone who actually felt that way upon reaching this part of the film.

However, for me, it was a turning point moment that I believed could lead to a real opportunity. Sure, the evil water can migrate, but that doesn't necessarily make the pool itself evil. This is actually a good thing because now if someone decides to make a sequel there can be a new pool. Heck, in my opinion there could be a hundred haunted pools!

Director Bryce McGuire told EW that he has ideas for a sequel, and we haven't heard anything yet Night swimming 2 I think there is a possibility that it will become a reality. As reported by , the film celebrated its planned debut in the first week diversity, so you'd bet it made a nice profit on a budget of around $15 million. If the film further highlighted the ridiculousness of the entire premise, perhaps the sequel could be an even bigger success. Who knows, maybe it will even be a success, because those who skipped the first part will be shocked to learn that there is a sequel. I know I would buy a ticket in a heartbeat if I knew it was happening! Considering how much I enjoyed the first film, I don't want to miss seeing a sequel in the cinema.

I can continue to hope for a sequel as long as people are interested in watching Night swimming You can watch it now on Peacock. I would highly encourage anyone who is reading through this but has not read it yet to do so because they will not be disappointed if they approach it with the right mindset.
