Chicago Area Tornado Watch Issued – NBC Chicago

There is a “minor” risk of severe weather in the Chicago area Tuesday evening as a tornado warning is in effect and sporting events are already affected by the conditions.

DeKalb and LaSalle counties are affected by the clock, which expires at 10 p.m

6:03 p.m.: White Sox postpone Tuesday game against Royals

The White Sox have postponed their Tuesday showdown with the Kansas City Royals because of rain, the team announced.

The game will be rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday from 1:10 p.m. The second game begins 30 to 45 minutes after the end of the first game.

Fans with tickets to Wednesday's game will be able to attend both games of the doubleheader. Fans with tickets to Tuesday's game will receive a refund, the team said.

5:50 p.m.: Tornado warning issued for western suburban counties

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for DeKalb and LaSalle counties as severe weather approaches the Chicago area.

The warning said conditions could be favorable for tornado development in the region, with gusty winds and large hail also possible as storms develop.

Lee, Boone, Ogle and Winnebago counties are also affected by the surveillance.

5:21 p.m.: Live radar shows approaching storms

5:13 p.m.: ComEd is prepared for severe storms

Given the possibility of wind gusts of more than 50 miles per hour and frequent lightning, ComEd said it has positioned crews and equipment to be prepared for possible power outages.

The company offered residents several ways to report outages and downed power lines, which can be found on its website and mobile app.

4:30 p.m.: Dust storm warnings impact Interstate 72 near Springfield

As severe weather approached, the National Weather Service was forced to issue multiple dust storm warnings along a stretch of Interstate 72 west of Springfield.

Illinois State Police also had to close the road between mile markers 84 and 87 several times due to poor conditions as there was almost no visibility in the area.
