When do college players have to declare for the NBA draft?

The NBA Draft will take place this summer at the Barclays Center in New York City. Hundreds of players from around the world are preparing to go through the pre-draft process in hopes of having their names announced in June.

One of those players is Indiana basketball standout Kel'el Ware. The Oregon transfer came to Bloomington with a lot of questions about his motor and what he wanted. He answered all of those questions this year, earning All-Big Ten Defensive and All-Big Ten Third Team honors.

When will Ware officially declare for the draft?

Players who are automatically eligible for the draft have either graduated, been four years removed from their high school class or played overseas. Players like Ware must register as early adopters. International players must be 19 years old and released from their professional or club team contract.

Players who wish to declare early will have the option to either remain in the draft or return to school. This time window is from April 27th to June 16th. Players have the opportunity to collect information about their draft status. Early enrollees can also attend NBA pre-draft camps to showcase their skills and receive information about their draft status.
