EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Harriet Thorpe has spoken out about the soap's Christmas murder mystery.

When asked what it was like to be part of this story, Thorpe (who plays landlady Elaine Peacock) said: It's brilliant! As you can imagine, we all played Sherlock Holmes to the fullest! Everyone in the cast is playing detective and it's great that none of us know it. It’s all part of the joy.”

The actress, who also starred as Fleur in popular sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, also admitted she can't wait for her first EastEnders festive season.

I am so excited and honored to be part of this team that is creating something that is so socially important for so many people. It also offers people a break and some fun at Christmas.

“I’ll be tuning in on Christmas Day to find out which of the men is on the floor of The Vic,” she said.

Thorpe recently spoke to the Mirror and apparently ruled out Elaine's partner George Knight as dead.

“It's annoying when I find a body in my pub at Christmas. Extremely annoying! Because I have to clean up the mess. Get out the carpet cleaner! I would put George in charge of it,” she commented.

Those words were then picked up after Thorpe appeared to suggest that George could live until the next day, with the actress being asked if she had accidentally given away an important clue.

“I don't know it. Not my story,” she replied shyly.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One. The show is also streaming on BBC iPlayer.
