Domestic dispute leads to Philadelphia police shooting man – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police in Philadelphia were called to an apartment early Saturday morning on reports of a person with a gun in the building, officials said.

A woman in her early 20s was with a friend and a man in his early 20s at their home on East Cliveden Street in the East Mount Airy neighborhood when an argument broke out between her and the man, police said.

According to police, the man was asked to leave the house, which he did, before later returning and entering the apartment through a window.

Once inside, the man grabbed the woman's arm and took her to a bedroom, where they continued to argue, officials said.

According to officers, a second man knocked on the front door of the home. He was allegedly the subject of the argument between the suspect and the woman.

The woman later told police that the suspect she was arguing with grabbed a hammer and went outside to confront the second man.

When police arrived at the scene shortly after 1 a.m., they saw a man knock on the apartment door and ask the other man, the suspect, to come outside.

Police said they heard him say, “Oh, you have a hammer,” before he left the apartment's entrance.

At that point, the suspect came outside holding an object they believed to be a firearm, police said. Both officers on scene fired their weapons, striking the suspect.

The suspect then went back into the residence, police said.

Officers declared the scene a barricade and called SWAT for help, officials said.

The suspect exited the building and was arrested without further incident, according to officials.

Officials said they took the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to one arm and a graze wound to the other arm.

According to officials, investigators were able to find a hammer at the scene.

This case remains under investigation by the Officer Involved Shooting Investigations Unit (OISI), the Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB), and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office (DAO).

The officers who fired their weapons at the suspect have been placed on administrative duties, per department policy.
