Former Texas basketball player DeYona Gaston is heading to Auburn

Like the Texas Longhorns, DeYona Gaston is also traveling to the Southeastern Conference.

Gaston announced on her Instagram account Sunday that she will be transferring to Auburn. Gaston, a 6-foot-2 forward, spent the last four basketball seasons in Texas. She announced earlier this month that she would be spending her senior year elsewhere.

The move to Auburn brings a reunion between Gaston and Johnnie Harris, who is entering her fourth season as the Tigers' head coach. During Gaston's first year at Texas, Harris was her position coach and the Longhorns' associate head coach. Harris was also a member of the Mississippi State coaching staff, which originally hired Gaston in the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Gaston's decision also means she will likely play against her former team in the 2024/25 season. Texas is moving to the SEC this summer.

In 106 games at Texas, Gaston averaged 9.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. She was a first-team All-Big 12 honoree in 2023. She was honored as the Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year last season.

Gaston joins an Auburn team that went 20-12 last season. Auburn's season ended with its first NCAA Tournament appearance under Harris.
