MCPS is expanding its sports offerings to include Girls' Flag Football

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has partnered with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armor to implement a girls flag football program starting this fall.

The partnership provides grants for the pilot program that cover the cost of equipment and Under Armor uniforms for each of the district's 25 high schools. The money will also be used to fund coaching, transportation and awards scholarships.

MCPS has not previously had a girls flag football team.

“We are pleased to be a part of the expansion of girls flag football in Maryland as we strive to provide additional participation opportunities for our student-athletes in Montgomery County Public Schools,” said Jeff Sullivan, director of systemwide athletics for MCPS.

“The girls flag continues to enjoy popularity across the country and we look forward to working with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armor to bring that excitement to our 25 high schools in Montgomery County. “This initiative is directly aligned with our RAISE core values of equity, access and vigorous competition and will be a stepping stone to the success of flag football throughout our county,” he wrote in a press release.

Coaching positions will be posted on MCPS Careers in the near future.

Information sessions will be held in May and skills clinics will be held at MCPS schools in early June.

The other two Maryland districts participating in the pilot program are public schools in Baltimore City and Washington County.
