Cal Poly football spring game set for Saturday at Mustang Memorial Field

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After a month of training, Cal Poly football will wrap up spring ball this Saturday by presenting its spring games.

The spring game begins at 11 a.m. at Mustang Memorial Field and runs until approximately 12:30 p.m. There will be four 10-minute quarters in an offense-versus-defense format, which will also include special situations such as redzone, two-minute drills and special teams contests.

Entry is free for everyone. Fans in attendance can watch players like defensive end Elijah Ponder, an FCS All-American last season and potential future NFL draft selection. Quarterback is also back Sam Huardwho set program records for single game pass completions and passing touchdowns last season.

Saturday will also give fans a preview of the new co-offensive coordinators Erik Meyer And Tim Rosenbach do it with both the offense and the tight ends coach Joey Muscarella. Fans can also see all the work the players have put in the weight room this offseason to get bigger and stronger, thanks in part to the new head football strength coach Darin Lovat.

Ponder and Huard are two of several starters returning for the Mustangs. Others include wide receivers Giancarlo Woods, Michael Briscoe, Logan BooherTyrece Farily-Diyem and Evan Burkhart. Running backs Aiden Ramos, Troy Fletcher, Kendric Sanders. Offensive linemen Austin Anderson, Jasdev Banwait, Charles LincolnAnd Payson Campisano.

Other defensive starters are safety Brian Dukes Jr.Cornerbacks Xavier Oliphant, Delano FranklinAnd Kai RapollaDefenseman Josh Ngualafe, Mason BarbourAnd Antonio Vakameilaloand linebacker Kenny Olson, Ethan Calvert, Carson JonesAnd Judea Moon.

Saturday's scrimmage marks Cal Poly's last official practice of the spring before returning to fall camp on July 31.
