Thanks to the Amazon Prime show, everyone is playing Fallout games, including Bethesda's infamous comeback child Fallout 76. The studio recently confirmed that Fallout games were included almost 5 million people everyone plays at the same time. In the live Fallout 76 game, over 1 million players traveled and survived in contaminated West Virginia, making up about 20% of all Fallout players.

It's likely that the majority of Fallout 76 users play on consoles. This is based on SteamDB's admittedly limited data, which shows that Fallout 76 is at an all-time high 73,368 users on Steam. This means that Steam PC players accounted for a maximum of 7.3% of all Fallout 76 players during this period. So where are the other 926,000 players?

There is a good chance that some of these users are still on the PC. Keep in mind that Amazon just gave away free copies of Fallout 76 to all Prime subscribers, but those copies were destined for the Microsoft Store on PC and we have limited data available for that store.

But given what we know about how Microsoft's PC store compares to Steam (most users choose Steam to play their PC games), Steam could have more players despite its free offerings.

Still, it is undoubtedly true that there are more Fallout 76 players on consoles than on PCs due to sheer availability on this platform. Fallout 76 is playable on both Gen8 and Gen9 systems and was released in 2018. There are also platform preferences to consider; PC gamers tend to gravitate toward moddable Bethesda games, and Fallout 76 isn't moddable (yet?).

This is just a reminder that consoles are very important for a variety of games, including Fallout 76.
