  • PS5 and PS4: Once you have access to the update, select which version of Fallout 4 you want to download from your Collection. Then scroll through your games and select Fallout 4. A menu will then appear to select the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. Make your selection and the download will begin automatically.
  • Xbox Series X: Go to “My games and apps,” then click “See all,” then “Manage.” You should now have the option to click on any available updates. Click on “Update for Fallout 4” and the download will begin automatically.
  • PC: Launch the Steam application, click on the Library tab, right-click on Fallout 4 and select the update option. Then select Properties from the pop-up menu and the Updates tab. You can also choose to have the game update automatically in the Automatic Updates section.

Will the next-gen Fallout 4 update break mods?

Yes, it is possible that mods that you have downloaded for your Fallout 4 game will no longer work with the new update.

Especially with the new Fallout TV show airing, many players have downloaded new mods inspired by the show.

Bethesda says a post on X on Thursday that “access to the Creation Club and/or the Mods menu will be temporarily unavailable.”

There's no word on when these features will be available again, but Bethesda's X post also said to keep an eye on the status page at beth.games/4ba7xUT.
