2024 NFL Draft: Day 1 first-round picks recap

The NFL's worst kept secret finally came to fruition On Thursday, the Chicago Bears selected highly touted USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Bears and their long-suffering fans are hoping the 22-year-old phenom will finally bring them much-needed stability at the quarterback position, which has been in flux since the days of Jim McMahon in the 1980s.

To make way for Williams, Chicago swapped away Quarterback Justin Fields traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month after the No. 11 pick in the 2021 draft failed to live up to the high expectations placed on him. The Bears also hold the No. 9 pick as they look to reshape their roster.

The design that is takes place in Detroit, is one of the deepest players in years at the quarterback, offensive tackle and wide receiver positions, thanks in part to the pandemic that caused many players to extend their college careers. Up to five quarterbacks and up to nine offensive tackles could be taken off the field Thursday.

Rounds two and three of the draft take place on Friday, and rounds four to seven on Saturday.
