Ten Hag on Rashford, injuries and the atmosphere at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag faced the media ahead of Saturday's game against Burnley at Old Trafford.

Reporters from The Sun, The Mirror and the Manchester Evening News were present but were not allowed to ask questions after the United manager criticized the coverage of the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry last week.

Here's what he had to say:

  • Ten Hag offered Marcus Rashford his support: “Of course I have great sympathy for Rashy. Last year was a brilliant season – the best of his career – and you saw what he was capable of. This year he didn’t perform well or show people.” [have been] very critical. I think we have to support him and get him back to last year’s level.”

  • Mason Mount will return to the squad for the Burnley game, but otherwise it will be the same line-up as against Sheffield United, meaning Rashford is unlikely to return.

  • He believes Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial are all likely to return from injury this season: “Yes, I think so. All three of them returned to the pitch. Next week she and we have to take a step into team training. “I think they can be available in the last few weeks. You are making good progress.

  • By the end of the season, he wants the team to be “better organized in possession and play with high intensity.” He also feels they have made great strides in possession this season and thinks it is “immense” how United have developed their attacking style of play.

  • He wants his attacking players to be more disciplined and put more pressure on the ball when the team is defending.

  • On Burnley: “They play high-intensity football and have changed their approach a bit. They're more in survival mode now and doing pretty well. They have had good results in the last few games and will be hard to beat.”

  • He believes that the fans have not turned against the players: “The fans are always behind us. We're back at Old Trafford and the reception on Wednesday was louder than I heard. Even away from home they always support and support the team. “There is a good connection between the team and the fans.

  • He believes United have not been able to perform as desired this season due to the number of unavailable players and believes fans understand this.

  • He denied that the players were playing for their future: “No, we are playing for points, to reach the best position in the league and win silver.”
