The new film “28 Days Later” gets an exciting filming update

The 28 Days Later franchise is expanding as the latest film has received an exciting filming update.

The popular zombie film was released back in 2002 with a sequel in 2007 and in January it was confirmed that Danny Boyle would be returning to direct three new films in the same world.

While Boyle will direct the first new film, titled 28 Years Later, Deadline has now reported that Candyman director Nia DaCosta is in talks to direct the second part of the film trilogy.

The film's original writer Alex Garland, who is also behind the new Civil War film, will write and produce both new films alongside Boyle, Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice.

Oscar winner and star of the original film Cillian Murphy will also executive produce, although it is not yet known whether he will reprise his iconic role.

While nothing is confirmed yet, reports suggest that 28 Years Later will begin filming later this year with Boyle at the helm, and the second film will begin filming immediately afterward.

Oppenheimer star Murphy plays Jim in “28 Days Later,” who wakes up from a coma to find that the world is now ravaged by a highly contagious disease.

He wasn't involved in the 2007 sequel, but earlier this year he revealed that he would like to reprise the role in a future installment of the series.

He said: “I can’t say anything more at this stage. But I've always said I'd love to be a part of it because that film changed everything for me – I have a lot of affection for it and for those guys.” [Alex and Danny]. I never watch my own films, except this one.

“It's always around Halloween and during the pandemic people have been sending me clips all the time. And I showed it to my children. It's really stood the test of time, even though it's 22 years old now, so I'm really excited that we're doing it.” Get the band back together to do this one.

28 years later is currently under development.
