After the viral dance, Leelamma is ready to make it to the big screen | Lifestyle women

It looks like Leelamma, 64, was always just one dance away from fame. Now all social media is on fire with the video where Leelamma starts a dance to the tune of the evergreen Malayalam retro hit 'Oru Madhurakinavin'. She developed her talent at a relative's wedding reception in Pattambi.

“There was a big celebration on the eve of the wedding. The children were all dancing on stage and I wanted to join in too. Then my son urged me to dance too. He said it would be fun if I danced and after that I couldn't resist. I went up there. It was my son who chose this song. The old song reminded me of a lot of dance moves. I didn't hold back, I just went for it with full enthusiasm. I danced and the kids joined in too,” she said.

Little did Leelamma know that her dance would go viral. Thousands of people saw it after her son posted the video on social media. Now Leelamma is incredibly happy and feels very lucky. She says: “I have always loved dancing since I was young but never really had the opportunity to learn it formally. However, I have always loved dancing. Even when I'm working at home, I feel like dancing. Whenever I hear old songs, I can't help but dance in the kitchen, no matter how small, I will dance without hesitation.

Entrance to films
Leelamma has three children. Her son Santhosh is a dancer and artist; while her daughter teaches mini dance in Angamaly. Another daughter lives abroad. Leelamma lives with Santhosh, his wife and their two children in Pallikkara, Ernakulam. “Mom loves to dance. Whenever there is a celebration, we make sure she dances. We often dance together at home whenever we find time. Sometimes my mother asks me for dance steps and I teach her a few. However, she always ends up dancing in her own style, which we all agree looks better than any style we could teach her. Mom's passion is dance and we are always striving to create opportunities for her. Two film directors have even contacted her and offered roles in their upcoming films, including one with Mohanlal. We are all very happy at the moment,” said Santhosh.
