Oregon football Dan Lanning on 'epic' spring game, Mat Kearney 'did it'

The Oregon football spring game in Eugene, Oregon was an electric affair. In Oregon coach Dan Lanning's third game of the spring, he decided to set the tone and turn up the conversation.

Lanning invited fans to the field at Autzen Stadium for a Mat Kearney concert after the game. The Eugene native and fan-favorite artist is the singer of “Coming Home,” an upbeat song the Ducks play at the end of each first quarter.

Kearney “did it,” said Lanning, who said on social media that Saturday was an “epic day.”

“What an honour. This was something I never dreamed could happen,” Kearney said on the Pac-12 broadcast. β€œI wrote this song and it was really amazing to see what it turned into. I don’t come here (to Eugene) as much as I would like because I live in Nashville, but this is really special.”

Kearney, 45, grew up in Eugene and attended South Eugene High School. In a full-circle moment, fans were overjoyed to attend his post-game concert. The reaction on social media looked like a great time.

The spring game was also highlighted as a recognition of the military a halftime tribute to Gold Star families and in-game veteran recognition. An F-15 flypast thrilled fans. A postgame gift exchange between the Oregon football team and active-duty military is sure to be remembered forever.

Oregon's next game isn't until August 31st when they host Idaho. It is a stripe-out game and fans are encouraged to wear green when in an even section and yellow when in an odd section.
