Pixar animator reveals how a last-minute change to 'Finding Nemo' prevented the studio from making its 'first bad movie'

Finding Nemo is one of Pixar's most popular films, but one of the animators behind the 2003 film revealed that it was almost the studio's “first bad movie” – until a last-minute change was made.

“Originally, you figured it out [about Nemo’s mother’s death] through flashbacks. “We all went to the last showing before it ended and we all walked out of the theater without anyone saying anything,” said Pixar animator Jason Deamer UNILAD. “[We thought] “Did we just make our first bad movie?” We were a little worried and [co-director] “Lee Unkrick said, 'Let me try something,' and he took those flashbacks and recut them all at the beginning.”
