The iPhone 16's dummy units are leaking, showing these two big design changes

Apple's next iPhones, the iPhone 16 series, are scheduled to release later this year in September if rumors are to be believed. The rumor mill is already in full swing, revealing details about the upcoming iPhones. Now, a leaked image of dummy units of the upcoming iPhone 16 models gives us our first look at the new models launching later this year and reveals key design changes.

Bigger screens for the iPhone 16 Pro modelsThe image shared by tipster Sony Dickson in a post on X (formerly Twitter) shows that the Pro models will get much larger screens. According to the image, the iPhone 16 Pro will grow from the current 6.1-inch display to a 6.3-inch display. The 16 Pro Max is even larger, with a huge 6.9-inch screen, up from 6.7 inches on the current Pro Max.

The screen sizes of the vanilla iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models should remain the same. The regular iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch display, while the 16 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. All four iPhone 16 models could have narrower bezels around the screen.

New camera design for iPhone 16, iPhone 16 PlusBased on the leaked images, the camera systems also appear to have been redesigned. Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus appear to feature a vertically stacked triple camera setup, which is different from the diagonal camera setup on current models. This new design potentially enables new video recording capabilities such as 3D or spatial video.

The Pro iPhones retain the prominent triple camera bump, but with minor changes. However, the high-end phones should have new camera sensors and technologies to improve image quality over the previous models.

More design changes to iPhone 16 models
The action button, which replaced the mute switch on the Pro models, is rumored to have been carried over to vanilla models. Therefore, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would also do away with the mute switch and instead rely on the action button, which can be customized for different tasks using shortcuts.

Another rumored addition is a new record button that could work like a physical shutter button on cameras. This mechanical touch button is designed to make taking photos easier by providing dedicated shooting controls.

According to rumors, the iPhone 16 models could be available in new colors, with more saturated hues available for vanilla iPhone 16 variants in the store.

We expect to learn more about the iPhone 16 in the coming months as it gets closer to launch.
