Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode's new film Freud's Last Session has confirmed its UK release date.

The big screen adaptation of the play of the same name has already been released in the US and will be released in the UK on April 17, 2019 14th June.

Set in 1939, the film stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud, the world-famous neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis.

After his recent escape with his daughter from the Nazis, Freud is visited by Oxford academic and author of The Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis, played by Goode.

As the synopsis states, the two come together for “a monumental session about faith in the future of humanity and the existence of God.”

The film itself aims to draw parallels between the issues of the time that the two men discuss and the world today, as well as questions of free will, mortality and faith.

Since Freud's Last Session has already been published in the USA, there are numerous reviews.

On Rotten Tomatoes, many critics have praised the performances of both leads, even if the slow and plodding character may not appeal to everyone.

Meanwhile, after much speculation, it looks like a third Downton Abbey film is actually happening.

Although not officially announced, Imelda Staunton recently said that there will be a third and final film and that she doesn't care if she gets in trouble for it.

Interestingly, there were also rumors that filming had already begun, although for a seventh season of the TV show rather than a new film. There has also been speculation that a new season of the TV show could land on a platform other than ITV.
