The “Senior Center” film series runs until May – BG Independent News

From the WOOD COUNTY COMMITTEE ON AGING

The Wood County Committee on Aging continues its weekly film series through May.

The film matinees at 1 p.m. at the Bowling Green Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St.

The Wednesday series focuses on romance films and romantic comedies.

The schedule is:

“Momma Mia” (2008), May 1, starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried in a complete

Inflated musical with dance and romantic conflict.

“You've Got Mail” (1998), May 8, features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan representing both the small and large ends of the bookselling industry, with humorous but predictable results.

May 15's Save the Last Dance for Me (2001) is a romance starring Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas about how opposites attract and then finding ways to resolve differences.

“Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), May 22, “features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in a love story created by Hank's son, who wants his father to find a partner.

Serendipity (May 29, 2001), starring John Kusack and Kate Beckinsale, is the story of two people who meet, lose sight of each other, and then spend years trying to get back together.

Thursday Theater host is Kris Eridon.

Thursday's schedule is:

“To Catch a Thief,” May 2, a 1955 omantic thriller starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in which a retired jewelry thief works to prove his innocence.

“A Royal Night Out,” May 9, a 2015 semi-historical romantic drama starring Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley. On VE Day in 1945, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret leave their security forces behind and enjoy a celebratory night of freedom, excitement and danger in London.

“Colossus: The Forbin Project,” May 16, a 1970 science fiction thriller starring Eric Braeden and Susan Clark. It's a chilling warning against giving too much control to supercomputers and AI

“Roman Holiday,” May 23, the 1953 romance that launched Audrey Hepburn’s career (Best Actress winner), which also starred Gregory Peck. A bored princess escapes her guardians and finds romance in Rome.

“Darkest Hour,” May 30, the 2017 historical drama that shows how Churchill staged the Miracle of Dunkirk between May 26 and June 4, 1940. Gary Oldman (Best Actor) plays Churchill and Lily James as his assistant.

The Friday “How About a Movie?” series offers film lovers the opportunity to watch and discuss rarely seen classic films.

There will be films of all genres from Hollywood's golden age from 1930 to 1990, including war films, western films, dramas, action films, adventure films, comedies, film noir, science fiction, documentaries, romance films, crime films, seasonal films and musicals.

May focuses on the work of Cliff Robertson.

Friday's schedule is:

“PT 109,” May 3, a 1963 biography/drama) starring Robertson, Robert Culp, Ty Hardin.

“The Girl Most Likely,” May 10, a 1957 musical comedy starring Jane Powell, Robertson and Keith Andes.

“The Best Man,” May 17, a 1964 drama starring Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson and Edie Adams.

Friday, 2024 “Man Without a Country,” May 24, a 1973 adventure drama starring Robertson, Beau Bridges and Peter Strauss.

“Picnic,” May 31, 1955 drama starring William Holden, Kim Novak, Betty Field and Robertson.
