Pipeline Square: ONGC pipeline bursts at Charaideo, gas leak triggers panic | Guwahati News

Dibrugarh: An underground gas pipeline of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) burst at Sonari in Charaideo district on Tuesday, leading to a major gas leak in the area. The incident triggered panic among residents who fear a possible fire outbreak if the gas is not contained. According to locals, the pipeline burst near a river bridge around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. “We heard a loud noise and saw smoke coming from the ground. “We immediately knew something was wrong and alerted the authorities,” said Gunjan Saikia, a local. Residents living near the scene of the accident expressed concern about the potential dangers posed by the gas leak. “We are afraid of what could happen if the gas leak is not contained in time. “The fear of fire outbreak is very real and is a major concern for locals,” said Hemanta Gogoi, another resident. ONGC officials and technical staff have reached the spot and are working to stop the gas leak and repair the pipeline. “We are doing everything we can to contain the leak and ensure the safety of people in the region. “Our technical team is working to repair the damaged pipe as soon as possible,” an ONGC official said. The cause of the pipeline burst is still unknown, but officials say it may be a fault in the pipeline. “We are investigating the cause of the explosion and are working to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future,” the official added.
