'The Fall Guy' is criticized for a joke about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

A line of dialogue in The Guy case is already causing discussions among some viewers before the film's release.

In the David Leitch-directed action comedy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham's character Gail Meyer at one point makes reference to the turbulent relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Another social media user wrote that the film “supposedly makes a cheap Amber/J*hnny joke. “I'd like to ask the author what he thinks is so funny about domestic violence.”

Depp and Heard married in 2015, but their relationship ended 15 months later. However, their split became public knowledge in 2019 when Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation in 2018 Washington Post She wrote about domestic violence in her editorial, but did not mention Depp by name in the article.

After an intense court battle, also broadcast live, in which both actors made bombshell allegations against each other, a jury ruled in Depp's favor on all three claims that he was defamed by Heard's editorial and was awarded millions of dollars in damages.

Heard also filed a countersuit against Depp, winning one of three defamation suits and being awarded $2 million in damages.

The Hollywood Reporter has contacted Universal Pictures, The Guy case's distributor for a comment.
