Transfer DT Damonic Williams prefers Oklahoma over Texas, LSU

The Oklahoma Sooners scored a huge win in the transfer portal. Damonic Williams decided to transfer his talents from TCU to Norman.

The recruiting was reportedly centered around Oklahoma, Texas, LSU and Missouri, with Texas and Oklahoma being mentioned the most toward the end of recruiting.

The move is strange in some ways and not in others. For Williams, the move means he's choosing not to play for a playoff team that's on its way to greater success. In some ways, it's reminiscent of the edge rusher recruitment of Oschaun Mathis, which Texas ultimately lost.

Otherwise the step makes sense. From a distance it was clear that Williams had a fondness for Oklahoma as he made his way to the portal. That's why I wrote that I wouldn't hold my breath if Texas won because of the talented defensive tackle. Still, some thought the Longhorns would be in contention.

Ultimately, Williams finally decided on the team he apparently wanted to join.

The addition is a big win for the Sooners, who have little wiggle room given a busy schedule. Oklahoma faces Texas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri and LSU on the road in Norman and plays Tennessee and Alabama at home.

It remains to be seen whether the addition of Williams will be a game-changer for the Sooners or not, but it could increase their chances of winning in closer games. It presents another challenge for the Texas offense to overcome when game-planning for Oklahoma in the offseason.

For Texas, it thwarts the chance to further solidify a contender.

The squad prospects are not bad. The roster isn't empty after the addition of defensive tackles Bill Norton and Tiaoalii Savea from Arizona. The homegrown players are just as good in Austin as they are anywhere that isn't called Georgia or Ohio State. It's still a failure for head coach Steve Sarkisian and company.

We'll keep an eye on the transfer portal to see if Texas adds anyone on the interior in the future.
