FWC identifies two suspects based on viral illegal dumping videos

Authorities have identified two suspects after a viral video showing several boaters illegally dumping trash into the ocean off Boca Raton angered the public.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the suspects are two teenagers who were seen throwing large trash cans into the water off Boca Inlet on Sunday.

The FWC is working with the Palm Beach County District Attorney's Office on related charges, which are imminent, the FWC said in a news release. Although the two suspects have reportedly been identified, the investigation continues, the FWC said.

The video was posted by Wavy Boats on YouTube and Instagram, sparking anger from the community.

“This is truly amazing guys,” Wavy Boats wrote on Instagram. “We filmed this crew leaving Boca Bash 2024 yesterday using 1500mm zoom. It turns out they went out and threw two trash cans full of trash into the ocean.”

According to the Florida Litter Law, any person who dumps more than 15 pounds of litter into a waterway is guilty of a first-degree felony.

They also face up to a year in prison, a $1,000 fine and up to a year of probation.

The FWC urges anyone interested in coming forward to contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.
