One Texas Rangers prospect makes it out of the top 100 in the rankings, while another is right behind him

Baseball America Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter has been left off the updated Top 100 prospect rankings for May – and another prospect is expected to follow soon.

Carter graduated because he had the service time required to no longer be considered a candidate, which was to be expected after he spent about three weeks with the Rangers at the end of last season.

He had a rough start to this season, hitting five home runs and 12 RBI in 29 games, hitting .222/.310/.444/.754. He has 26 strikeouts and 11 walks.

With June's updated rankings, fellow rookie Wyatt Langford should have the time to graduate. In the latest update, he was ranked No. 4 overall.

Langford was the Rangers' first-round pick (No. 4 overall) last summer and pitched through the minors, ending up at Triple-A Round Rock last season.

He continued that streak in spring training and made the Opening Day roster.

It took Langford a month to hit his first major league home run, which was an inside-the-park home run against Cincinnati on Sunday. In 30 games, he hit .230/.302/.301/.603 with one home run and 11 RBI.

Langford split time between the outfield and designated hitter.

The Rangers only have one other top-100 prospect in this update – shortstop Sebastian Walcott. He remained at No. 56, his ranking in April.

The 18-year-old Walcott was the Rangers' top international signing last January and already plays at High-A Hickory. He struggled at the plate with a .184 average, two home runs and two RBI in 21 games for the Crawdads.
