Video shows alleged child abuse incident at Overland Park Kiddi College

OVERLAND PARK, Ks. – A former employee of Kiddi's Colleague in Overland Park is accusing another employee of physically abusing a 3-year-old child earlier this week.

Alyssa Cook, who no longer works for the daycare, recorded video of the alleged incident on Monday, which she said shows a staff member repeatedly hitting the child in the face with her arm.

Overland Park police confirmed they were investigating the incident but said no one had been charged. Therefore, FOX4 is not identifying the employee.

Cook uploaded the incident in a TikTok shared with FOX4. In the video you can see a woman who has a child on her lap and repeatedly hits herself in the face with the child's arm.

Only a few seconds are shown of the alleged action, but Cook said it lasted three minutes.

“In the video,” Cook explained, “you can hear the skin-to-skin contact over and over again [the employee] say: “{Redacted} don’t like it when you hit me. If you hit me, I'll hit you. Stop beating yourself, stop beating yourself.”

Just before Cook hit the record button, she said the toddler was playing with a doll at the baby center when the employee in question came by, snatched the doll away and told him he could only play with Legos or paints.

The child then hit the employee, who then forced the 3-year-old to hit himself repeatedly, according to Cook.

FOX4 called Kiddi's colleague Friday afternoon about the alleged incident. While they declined to speak on camera at this time, they did share details about what they believe happened earlier in the week.

A staff member confirmed that the child slapped a staff member and that the “staff member then tried to calm her down.”

Kiddi's colleague told FOX4 that they followed protocol following the incident, which included notifying the health department and reporting the employee to the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF), which oversees the state's daycare centers . They also said a police officer came to the scene, looked at everything and left.

FOX4 emailed the Kansas DCF asking if the employee self-reported but did not receive a response by deadline for this report.

Cook said the day after the incident she was “fired” and “kicked out” and that she had a video of a woman telling her and her children to leave school. However, Kiddi's colleague disputed this version of events and said Cook told two employees that she was quitting.

“I hope to God that {redacted} never becomes the director of another daycare again,” said Cook, who filed a police report on Tuesday.

She also reported the alleged incident to the Kansas DCF. According to a document in her inbox, DCF said: “The incident has been referred for investigation.”

FOX4 called and emailed the department about Cook's report but did not receive an update on the status of the case by deadline.

FOX4 also attempted to call and email the three-year-old child's mother but never received a response. However, Cook said she has been in contact with the child's mother and plans to press charges.

“I showed her the video of him because as a mother I couldn’t sleep that night,” she said.

Overland Park police and the Kansas Department for Children and Families continue to investigate. No charges were filed in this alleged incident either.
