Two police officers shoot a man with a knife while investigating a domestic incident in Chanhassen, according to the sheriff

CHANHASSEN, Minn. – Two sheriff's deputies investigating a domestic incident in Chanhassen Saturday afternoon shot and killed a man who approached them with a knife, officials say.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office said officers responded to the 7800 block of Harvest Lane just after 2 p.m. When they arrived, they spoke to the woman who made the complaint outside her home.

While they were questioning the woman, a man came out and attacked the officers with a knife, the sheriff's office said.

Officers gave the man verbal commands to drop the knife, but he “quickly continued to advance toward the officers with the knife,” according to Carver County Sheriff's Deputy Patrick Barry.

The two officers fired their weapons and struck him several times. He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting. The two officers are on emergency leave, which is standard procedure.

“Please do not threaten our deputies,” he said. “Just keep an eye on your friends, keep an eye on your neighbors.”
