The Queensbury girls will face a state opponent. Warrensburg secures the top spot in Adirondack League baseball

HENRIETTA – In a battle of the nation's top girls lacrosse teams, Queensbury dominated the final five minutes Saturday and remained undefeated with a 10-8 nonleague victory over Section V's Rush-Henrietta.

The Spartans (11-0), ranked No. 8 in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class C poll this week, trailed 8-7 with 5:03 left in regulation. Back then, Kaitlyn Barton and Kady Duffy left an indelible impression.

Barton won a draw control, giving Queensbury the game-winning possession, where Duffy scored after a push from Quinn Jones, leveling the contest at 8-8 with 4:37 on the clock.

Duffy then won three consecutive draw controls, two of which resulted in goals from Barton. The starting signal was given almost three minutes before the end with a shot from a free position. Despite heavy defensive pressure, Barton secured the final two-goal lead with 1:23 left.

Barton finished the game with five goals and Duffy scored four goals, giving her 101 in a Queensbury jersey. Duffy, who also had two assists, is the 21st Spartan to reach the 100 mark in career goals.

Goaltender Bayley Duffy finished the game with a career-best 14 saves. Lilly Trowbridge also provided a goal for QHS.

The Royal Comets (9-3), ranked eighth in Class A, were led by Riley Brown and Danielle Garrett, who each scored a hat trick.

BASEBALL

WARRENSBURG 4, LAKE GEORGE 1: Senior Brady Cheney threw a game-long one-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead the Burghers to an Adirondack League victory over Lake George.

Warrensburg (14-2 overall) finished the Adirondack League regular season at 9-1, giving the Burghers the No. 1 seed in next week's four-team league tournament.

Cheney, 9-0 this season, has 280 strikeouts in his career, ranking second all-time in Section II, behind only former Saratoga Catholic Tim Stauffer.

Senior Caden Allen hit a base-clearing double with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Warrensburg the lead for good. Senior Stevie Schloss went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored.

Jack Welch had the lone hit for the Lakers (3-7 in league), and Ben Sheldon pitched well in the loss, striking out six batters.

SALEM-CAMBRIDGE 18, LOUDONVILLE CHRISTIAN 8: Salem-Cambridge scored 20 hits en route to a nonleague win, led by Stephen Yakubec, who hit a home run, a double and two singles and scored seven runs.

James Beagle and Cooper Saddlemire each added three hits for SC, which also got a home run, a double and three RBIs from Abe Cushing. Brayton Cary added a double, a single and three RBIs.

Beagle, Drake Webster and Cary combined to strike out 13 batters for Salem-Cambridge (7-5).

SOFT BALL

BALLSTON SPA 14, HUDSON FALLS 1: The Scotties scored nine runs in the third inning to open non-league play en route to the win.

Jerusha Fairbanks went 2-for-2 for the Tigers (11-4), who got a double from Madison Sawyer and an RBI from Kiera Ross.

Natalia Guthrie went 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI, and Carlie Koebbeman added a three-run home run to lead Ballston Spa.

GREENWICH 12, HOOSIC VALLEY 0: Keeley Vooris pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks in a five-inning Wasaren League win over Hoosic Valley on Friday.

Kiera Kirk went 2 for 3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, Oliveah Reiszel added two hits and three RBIs and Kiley Allen added a base hit and two runs scored for the Witches.

GRANVILLE 20, NORTH WARREN 1: Ella Olsen hit two home runs, a single, eight RBIs and three runs scored to give the Golden Horde the Adirondack League victory on Friday.

Granville (9-2, 10-3), which scored 10 runs in the second inning, got a big game from Lauren Bascom, who struck out nine batters in 3 2/3 innings and added two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Melissa Beaver added two hits and scored three runs, and Lilly Baker doubled.

Addison Swan hit a solo home run and Laci Bruno singled for the Cougars.
