The statewide average fell slightly again for drivers as oil prices have cooled and the county appears more confident that the spring peak has been reached.

According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, refinery utilization rates last week indicated that some maintenance work will need to be carried out at the refinery. However, oil prices have helped put pressure on gasoline prices, with the price of oil falling below $80 a barrel last week.

“In addition, a weaker-than-expected jobs report reinforces some concerns that gasoline demand could remain weak during the summer driving season, which is just weeks away from the start,” De Haan said.

“Looking forward, given seasonal factors, we expect gasoline prices to continue to cool alongside diesel prices as we look forward to the Memorial Day weekend.”

According to a GasBuddy survey of 13,114 gas stations in Texas, average gasoline prices in Texas rose 7.3 cents per gallon over the last week and now average $3.27 per gram.

Prices in Texas are 5.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and 25.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

The national average price for diesel fell 3.4 cents last week to $3.94 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Texas was priced at $2.15/g on Sunday, while the most expensive was $4.90/g, a difference of $2.75/g.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1 cent per gallon in the last week and today averages $3.62/g.

According to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports from more than 150,000 gas stations nationwide, the national average increased 2.7 cents per gallon from the previous month and is 11.1 cents per gallon higher a year.
