Child's 9-1-1 call leads to arrest in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC – A child's call to 9-1-1 leads to an arrest in Fond du Lac overnight.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Laridaen tells WTMJ that the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call early this morning where the line remained busy with no voice and then the connection was lost. The communications center attempted to call the number back and it immediately went to voicemail.

While responding to the home in the 600 block of East Scott Street, the communications center received another 9-1-1 call, this time from an 11-year-old child who stated his father was drunk and began arguing and injured him. When FDLPD arrived, they were met outside the residence by the child wearing only shorts and wrapped in a blanket with a visible injury. The FDLPD learned that several other children were also in the apartment.

FDLPD officers attempted to make contact at the residence and at one point encountered verbal threats from the suspect through the closed door directed at law enforcement.

SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams were activated.

The suspect opened the apartment door once, walked out with a child and locked the door behind him. The 31-year-old suspect was arrested without incident around 3:43 a.m. and broke through the door to get to the two remaining children.

Three of the children were examined at the scene by the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and had no injuries. The 11-year-old child was taken to hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

The 31-year-old male suspect from Fond du Lac was arrested on charges of aggravated physical abuse of a child-intentional bodily harm, bail jumping and misdemeanor bail jumping and is being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail.

The investigation into this incident is at a preliminary stage and remains under active investigation.
