Where CBS Sports ranks Florida after the spring training season in the SEC

College football's spring training season has now taken a back seat, while there has also been a lot of movement in the transfer portal in recent months. Now that the dust has settled, CBS Sports' Will Backus has taken on the task of evaluating the Southeastern Conference from top to bottom ahead of the summer season.

With the addition of the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners this season, the Florida Gators are now 16 schools strong and are in the bottom third of the league standings, coming in at No. 11, according to Backus.

“Most experts seem to have Florida pretty beaten down. That's understandable considering the Gators are now 11-14 after two years under Billy Napier. “This definitely feels like a pivotal season for his tenure,” Backus begins.

“But if there's one team outside the top 10 of these rankings that I'm confident can get into this league by the end of the season, it's Florida,” he continued. “Graham Mertz is an underrated quarterback (and is probably motivated to improve his game now that star rookie DJ Lagway is in the room), wide receiver Eugene Wilson is one of the SEC's best playmakers and the defense is actually taking shape on, with transfers that strengthen the returning starters.”

The Georgia Bulldogs occupy the top spot in the rankings, followed by Texas, Ole Miss Rebels, Alabama Crimson Tide, Missouri Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma, Kentucky Wildcats and Texas A&M Aggies. Florida is followed by the Auburn Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs and Vanderbilt Commodores.
