Caleb Lohner will transfer to Utah and play football for the Utes

Former Baylor and BYU basketball player Caleb Lohner will return to the state where he began his college career, but as a football player for Utah.

The 1.90 meter tall and 110 kilogram heavy Lohner, who entered the transfer portal on April 10th, announced his commitment to join the Utah football team on Monday, while adding that he “could potentially contribute on the field as well” for the Utes. Lohner, a graduate transfer, is expected to play tight end for Utah, which returns standout Brant Kuithe.

Lohner played 69 games for Baylor and averaged 3.2 points per game in the 2022-23 season and 2.4 points per game last season. He initially committed to play basketball for BYU after moving upstate from Texas to finish high school, but eventually received a release from his national letter of intent, allowing him to sign with BYU.

Lohner started 44 games for BYU and averaged seven points per game and 6.4 rebounds in his final season there before transferring to Baylor.

He scored a season-high 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting in Baylor's victory over UC-Santa Barbara in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Lohner recently attended Utah's spring football game in Salt Lake City.
